traditional Andean musical instruments, specifically a quena flute and two zampoña pan flutes.
Instrument Details
Zampoña (Pan Flute) The items on the left and right are zampoñas, a type of pan flute widely used in the Andes region of South America since pre-Columbian times. They are typically made from bamboo or dried reeds from places like Lake Titicaca. The pipes of varying lengths produce different notes, and they can have single or, as seen here with two rows, double rows of pipes. The colorful strings are used to bind the pipes together and are a common traditional decoration.
Quena (Flute) The single dark reddish-brown wooden instrument in the center is likely a quena, another traditional Andean flute. Unlike a standard pan flute, the quena is an end-blown flute with finger holes to change the pitch.
These instruments are central to traditional South American folk music and are often sold in artisan markets in countries like Peru, Bolivia, and Ecuador.
