Overview: Private All-Day tour with English speaking driver/guide
Description:
After enjoying your breakfast at the hotel, your English speaking driver and guide will pick you up and take you to the province of Colon on the Caribbean side. As we proceed to the Gatun Locks we will cross the Panama Canal just behind the huge iron lock gates and follow a small scenic road that will lead us to San Lorenzo Fort. The beautiful road to the ruins is surrounded by dense rainforest, providing an excellent opportunity to spot Howler and Capuchin monkeys, sloths, Toucans, and Ocelots.
As we reach the end of the road, we will arrive at the majestic Fort San Lorenzo, which was built during the Spanish colonial era in the 17th century. The fort proudly faces the Chagres River and the Caribbean Sea and offers a glimpse into the rich history of Panama. The fort was originally built to protect the Spanish gold route, and later it served as a stronghold for pirates, including the infamous Captain Henry Morgan. In the 18th century, the fort was taken over by the British, and it remained in their hands until it was abandoned in the 19th century.
We will take our time to explore the ruins and enjoy the breathtaking view of the thick rainforest reaching the Caribbean Sea. It's a stunning scenery that has remained unchanged for over 300 years. After visiting Fort San Lorenzo, we will return to Gatun and cross a bridge that overlooks the remains of the old French canal project, a failed attempt to build the canal by the French in the late 19th century.
Our next stop will be the Agua Clara Panama Canal Center, located above the new set of locks that allow the gigantic "Post Panama" ships to pass through the Canal. You will enjoy a great view of the locks from the high mirador. By the end of the afternoon, we will take you back to your hotel in Panama City, concluding an exciting and informative day full of history and adventure. Keywords: Colon, Gatun Locks, San Lorenzo, Fort, Spanish colonial era, Chagres River, Caribbean Sea, pirates, British, French canal project, Agua Clara.

Day 3: Caribbean Coast Island Hopping & Historic Portobelo
Overview: Private All-Day tour with English speaking driver/guide
Description:
After enjoying your breakfast at the hotel, your English speaking driver/guide will pick you up from your hotel. Enjoy our comfortable, air-conditioned car as we cross the country from the Pacific side to the Atlantic side.
Once we arrive at the port, a lancha boat will take you to the Monkey Island Isla Linton, which is famous for its Howler monkeys inhabiting the dense forest canopies. You will hear their barking howls when disembarking the boat and may also spot a few curious faces looking at you from atop the trees.
Isla Linton also has a natural pool, surrounded by mangroves, inviting you to soak in the balmy, shallow waters. The experience will almost feel surreal, as realize your heightened senses, listening to the multitude of birds chirping all around you and the occasional monkey bellowing at his companions, all while sitting waist deep in a natural bathtub.
We continue our tour to Isla Mamey though the “Love Tunnel”, a small passage for our boat through the mangroves.
Isla Mamey will welcome you from afar with its large white sand beach. With a huge, shallow reef right in front, this will be the perfect opportunity for you to unpack your snorkel and dive into the iridescent ocean. Various palm trees will afford plenty of shade, inviting you to lay down and enjoy the gentle Caribbean breeze.
At noon we head to Isla Grande, a short 10 minute boat ride from Isla Mamey.
As you step off the boat you will be welcomed by palm trees and white-sand beaches. A popular getaway for folk escaping the urban grind of Panama City, Isla Grande is an ideal setting for snorkeling, scuba diving or simply soaking up the island’s relaxed vibe. There are no roads here, just a small footpath along the island's southern coast, backed by pastel-colored cottages. Many of the people living here are of African descent and are eking out a living from fishing and growing coconuts – you’ll get a taste of both when you sample the local cuisine.
We will take you to an oceanfront restaurant, where seafood is served fresh from the ocean to your plate and where you can spend the rest of the day lounging on the private beach, sipping on a cold Balboa beer or snacking on delicious Patacones (fried plantains).
In the afternoon we will return to the port, making our way back to Portobelo, giving us the opportunity to explore the rich historical buildings around town.
‘Puerto Bello, ’the Beautiful Port, was named by Christopher Columbus in 1502, when he landed here on his fourth New World voyage. Since it was common during that time to abbreviate Spanish names, the beautiful port quickly became known as simply ‘Portobelo.’ Portobelo is now protected as a national park and as a Unesco World Heritage Site, offering not only a rich history filled with pirate attacks and the famous Black Jesus, which is revered as a powerful and miraculous figure, capable of granting favors and healing to those who believe in him.
After a visit to Portobelo we will head back to Panama City.
What's included: Private transportation with English speaking driver/guide, entrance fees, lunch, hotel room, breakfast

Day 4: Partial Panama Canal Transit
Overview: Group tour with English speaking guide aboard the ship

We will start our Panama Canal adventure in the Flamenco Marina (or La Playita marina, across the street, depending on boat schedule), located on the famous Amador Causeway. After boarding the Pacific Queen (or Tuira II), you will set sail towards the Panama Canal, traversing the Bay of Panama with the glitzy skyline as its backdrop. Once you pass under the gigantic Bridge of Americas it is time to say good bye to the Pacific Ocean, as you enter the Panama Canal with the first set of locks awaiting in the distance.
Entering the Miraflores Locks is a breathtaking experience, with its gigantic walls looming high above. Once the heavy lock doors close behind you, water is pumped into the basin, raising the boat 18 meters above sea level. After the lock doors open the Pacific Queen will enter the Miraflores Lake, a small artificially created body of fresh water separating the Miraflores Locks and Pedro Miguel Locks.
After entering the Pedro Miguel Locks, you the boat will be raised 9 meters higher, entering the Gailard Cut (often referred to as Culebra Cut, due to its snake like shape), where the Charges River flows into the Canal. Having been carved through the Continental Divide, the Gailard Cut will intrigue visitors with its rich history and geological significance. Enjoy the lush surroundings of the Panama Canal as the Pacific Queen makes its way along the 13.7 kilometer Gailard Cut to the Gamboa Dredging Division.
You will disembark at the Gamboa Dredging Division where your transportation is waiting to take you back to the Amador Causeway in Panama City

Day 6: Embera Indian Village, Chagres River and Waterfall
Overview: Private All-Day tour with English speaking driver/guide
Description:
After breakfast, your friendly, English-speaking driver/guide will pick you up from your Panama City hotel. Sit back and relax in our comfortable, air-conditioned car while gazing at the various sites we will pass on our 40 minute drive to our tour starting point in the Chagres National Park. The Embera tribe lives in remote areas of the rainforest, and the only way to reach them is by boat. However, the journey is part of the adventure, and you'll get to see some of the stunning scenery that Panama has to offer.
At the port of the Chagres River, an Embera Indian will take you and your guide in a traditional boat called "piragua" on a 20 minute ride upstream to the Mono waterfall, where you can take a refreshing plunge (note: only available during the Dry season months from December through April. During the Wet Season months we may not be able to visit the waterfall due to strong currents). As you make your way through the rainforest, you'll be surrounded by lush greenery and the sounds of wildlife. The boat ride is a great opportunity to take in the sights and sounds of the jungle and to snap some incredible photos.
Once you arrive at the Embera village, you will meet the Tusipono Embera Indian tribe that has managed to reject our modern, technological ways of life and maintained its simple traditions. Once you step off your boat, you will be greeted by the friendly and welcoming Embera people. They'll introduce themselves, and you'll have the chance to ask questions and learn about their way of life.
After our little hike and a delightful refreshing dip under the waterfall, we will continue to the Embera community.
The tour will take you through the village, where you'll get to see how the Embera people live, work, and play. You'll see how they build their homes, cook their food, and make their crafts. You'll also get to witness traditional dances and music performances.
One of the highlights of the tour is the chance to see the Embera people's intricate body art. The Embera people have a long tradition of using natural pigments to create intricate designs on their skin. You'll be able to see some of these designs up close and learn about the significance of each one. For a small fee, you can have the Embera design a body painting for you. The paint will be a temporary remembrance of your visit to the Embera tribe and will slowly fade away after a few days.
Visiting the Embera tribe is an unforgettable experience that offers a unique glimpse into a different way of life. You'll leave with a greater appreciation for the Embera people and their culture, and you'll have memories that will last a lifetime.
In the afternoon we return back to the hotel in Panama City.

Day 7: All-Day Private San Blas Island Tour
Overview: Private All-Day tour with Spanish speaking driver and basic English speaking boat guide
Description:
Your San Blas Day tour starts early in the morning. A friendly Spanish speaking driver will meet you at your hotel at 5:00am and safely transport you to the Port of Carti. Relax and start enjoying during the 2.5 to 3 hour journey through the spectacular jungle highlands. Oftentimes we encounter wildlife, such as monkeys and sloths on the road and will gladly stop the car to give you opportunities to admire these beautiful animals and to take photos. Our drivers will also stop at a grocery store in case you want to purchase any items, such as snacks, water or fruit.
When arriving at the port a “lancha” boat with your San Blas tour guide will be waiting for you, ready to commence the San Blas tour.
The 30-minute boat ride to the first island may be a little bumpy and, depending on ocean conditions, there may be some ocean spray. All of our boats have ample space and feature sun protection that will make this journey more comfortable.
Arriving at your first destination, Isla Perro, you will be greeted by a tropical palm-fringed island paradise and calm waters with various shades of blue and green inviting you to dive in and play with the multitude of colorful fish surrounding you, while snorkeling on the sunken shipwreck reef located close to the beach. You will have plenty of time to relax in the shade of a palm tree, explore the island, meet the amazing Kuna population or bath in the crystal clear ocean, surrounding yourself with the iridescent turquoise water colors allowing for postcard perfect photo shots. We provide all of our guests with free snorkel equipment for the day to marvel at the colorful reef and the multitude of fish species surrounding the wreck. The island also offers kayaks for rent, if you like to glide over the azure waters and take postcard photos of the island.
At lunchtime you will be served a tasty and freshly prepared lunch, with a choice of fresh fish or chicken (note: we also offer vegetarian options and other alternatives, if you have diet restrictions).
Our second stop is Arena Blanca (literally "White Sand"), an awe inspiring Natural Pool. Stand waist-deep in the middle of the ocean on fine sand and admire the many sea stars populating this vast, shallow area. Whether using your snorkel gear or not, everyone will be able to glimpse the amazing underwater world only a few feet below the surface.
Our third destination takes us to Isla Diablo, another typical San Blas island, white sand beaches and an interesting Kuna family inhabiting the island. Feel free to use the fresh water showers to rinse off before heading back to the port.
Between 3:00 and 3:30pm we will leave this island paradise and head back to the Port of Carti. Your driver will be waiting for you and safely drive you back to Panama City, dropping you off at your lodging by 7pm.
San Blas is one of the last unspoiled and undeveloped places in the world and we hope you will get to experience the beauty of the islands and the innocence of the unique Kuna culture. For our guests who only have one day to travel to the “Guna Yala” nation, the San Blas Day tour is the best option and will surely make you want to come back again.
