Panama City Pickup & Chagres National Park

At approximately 8:00 AM, your bilingual guide will pick you up from your Panama City lodging. Please be ready in the lobby at your confirmed pickup time.

Relax in an air-conditioned vehicle as you travel toward the starting point in the Chagres region. Rainforest scenery replaces the city surroundings as you approach the river, where the canoe portion of your adventure begins.

Additional pickup charges apply to locations outside the standard Panama City zone, including Costa del Este, Santa María, the Tocumen Airport area and Playa Bonita. Select the appropriate transportation option at checkout or contact our team before booking.

Traditional Canoe Ride on the Chagres River

At the river, local Emberá boat operators welcome you aboard a traditional motorized dugout canoe, commonly called a piragua. Enjoy an approximately 20-minute journey through rainforest scenery toward the waterfall area and village.

Watch the riverbanks, take in the surrounding greenery and enjoy the journey with your local hosts. Water levels, currents and weather can affect the route and travel time, so your guide and boat operator determine the safest itinerary on the day.

Mono Waterfall & Rainforest Hike

When river and weather conditions permit, follow your guide on a rainforest walk to Mono Waterfall. The trail can involve shallow water, mud, slippery rocks and uneven terrain. At the waterfall, enjoy the scenery and swim when your guide confirms that conditions are suitable.

Guests who prefer not to complete the hike may remain near the canoe with the local team. Let your guide know before the group begins the walk.

The waterfall visit is seasonal and cannot be guaranteed. Access is generally more likely during the dry season, from December through April. Strong currents, high water levels or unsafe trail conditions can prevent access, particularly during wetter months. An alternative swimming location may be offered when possible.

Visit the Parara Puru Emberá Village

Continue by canoe to the Parara Puru Emberá community, where your hosts welcome you and introduce aspects of their history, traditions and relationship with the rainforest.

Learn about traditional homes, food preparation and handcrafted baskets, carvings and jewelry. Community members share their knowledge and give you time to ask questions and explore the crafts available from local artisans.

Emberá Culture, Dance, Crafts & Body Art

The cultural presentation may include traditional music and dance, explanations of local customs and an opportunity to view or purchase handmade crafts directly from community artisans.

Community artists may also offer temporary body painting using natural jagua pigment. This optional activity costs extra, and the designs gradually fade over several days.
