San Blas Islands Tour from Panama City – Option 2
Our San Blas Islands tour from Panama City takes you into the spectacular Caribbean archipelago of Guna Yala for a full day of tropical beaches, crystal-clear water and island hopping. This Option 2 itinerary visits Isla Yansailadup, the Natural Pool and Isla Misdup, offering a quieter and more relaxed alternative to our classic San Blas Day Tour.
Your journey from Panama City to the San Blas Islands includes shared 4x4 transportation to the Port of Cartí, boat transfers between the islands, lunch and one drink. If you prefer fewer crowded stops and more time to enjoy the beaches, this itinerary is an excellent way to experience a different side of San Blas.
Unlike our classic San Blas Day Tour Option 1, this route focuses on less-visited island stops and a slower-paced Caribbean experience.
Please note: The exact itinerary and order of stops may change depending on weather, ocean conditions and local operational requirements.

San Blas Day Tour Option 1 vs. Option 2
We offer two different San Blas day-tour experiences so you can choose the itinerary that best matches the kind of day you want.
Option 1 – The Classic San Blas Experience
Our San Blas Day Tour Option 1 is best for first-time visitors who want to see several of the area's best-known attractions. The itinerary normally includes Isla Perro, the Natural Pool, Isla Misdup and Isla Diablo.
Best for: Travelers who want snorkeling, iconic San Blas stops and a well-rounded first visit.
Option 2 – The More Secluded Experience
San Blas Day Tour Option 2 is designed for travelers who prefer fewer crowds and more relaxed beach time. The itinerary includes Isla Yansailadup, the Natural Pool and Isla Misdup.
Best for: Travelers looking for beautiful beaches, a slower pace and a more tranquil San Blas island experience.
Important: Local Guna guides on Option 2 may not speak English. Please keep this in mind when choosing between the two tours.
Getting from Panama City to the San Blas Islands
Traveling from Panama City to the San Blas Islands requires a combination of road and boat transportation. This tour makes the journey easy by including shared pickup from your Panama City accommodation and transportation by 4x4 vehicle to the Port of Cartí in Guna Yala.
The drive normally takes approximately 2.5–3 hours and passes through mountainous rainforest terrain before reaching the Caribbean coast. Only suitable 4x4 vehicles are permitted on the road into Guna Yala.
Once you arrive at the port, you'll transfer to a local lancha for the approximately 25–40 minute boat ride into the San Blas Islands. Depending on sea conditions, the ride can be bumpy and wet.
By combining the road transfer and island boat transportation, our San Blas Islands tour from Panama City allows you to experience the islands in one day without arranging the different stages of transportation yourself.

San Blas Islands Tour from Panama City – Option 2 Itinerary
Your San Blas adventure begins early in the morning with pickup from your Panama City accommodation between 5:00 AM and 5:45 AM. You'll travel in a shared 4x4 vehicle through the mountain and rainforest landscape toward the Port of Cartí.
A short grocery-store stop may be made along the way if you would like to purchase additional snacks, water or other items for the day.
Once you arrive at the port, you'll board a local lancha for the boat journey into the San Blas Islands. Depending on sea conditions, the ride can be bumpy and wet.
Isla Yansailadup
Your first island stop is Isla Yansailadup, an inhabited tropical island surrounded by Caribbean water and palm-lined beaches in the San Blas Islands.
Enjoy time to swim, relax on the beach, use the ocean swings or simply take in the peaceful island setting. Beach chairs are available, and SUP boards may be available to rent locally.
Lunch is served during the island portion of the tour and normally includes your choice of fish or chicken with rice, plantains and salad. A vegetarian option can be requested. One drink is also included.

Natural Pool
We then continue to the famous Natural Pool, a shallow sandbank surrounded by clear Caribbean water.
Here you can stand in waist-deep water in the middle of the sea, swim and enjoy the unusual landscape. Starfish may sometimes be visible on the sandy bottom. Please observe marine life without touching or removing animals from the water. You can learn more about Panama's Caribbean marine ecosystems from the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute.

Isla Misdup
The final major stop is Isla Misdup, a newer island stop known for its undeveloped beach, shallow turquoise water and expansive submerged sandbank.
The shallow water extends far from shore, making this a relaxing place for swimming, wading and enjoying the Caribbean scenery. Compared with some of San Blas's more established islands, Isla Misdup generally offers a quieter and less-developed atmosphere.
Between approximately 3:00 PM and 3:30 PM, we'll begin the return trip toward the Port of Cartí. Your driver will be waiting for the journey back to Panama City, with arrival at your accommodation expected at approximately 7:00 PM.

Important Information for Your San Blas Islands Tour
Road Journey
Please be prepared for a 2.5–3 hour car ride each way on winding mountain roads that may include potholes and uneven sections. The journey is part of reaching this remote region and may be uncomfortable for travelers who are sensitive to motion.
Boat Ride
The boat ride from Port of Cartí to the islands normally takes approximately 25–40 minutes. Depending on ocean conditions, the ride can be bumpy and wet. We recommend protecting phones, cameras and other electronics in a waterproof bag.
Local Service & Guna Culture
Tour services within San Blas are provided by members of the local Guna community. San Blas is a remote Indigenous territory and service is generally simple and informal rather than hotel-style.
Option 2 local guides may not speak English. Patience, flexibility and respect for local customs are an important part of enjoying the experience.
For more background on the Indigenous people of the region, you can learn more about the Guna people.
Weather & Nature
San Blas has a tropical Caribbean climate and weather may change quickly. Tours generally operate in normal rain conditions, while severe maritime conditions may require itinerary changes or port closures.
Sandflies and mosquitoes may be present, particularly during wetter and less windy periods, so insect repellent is recommended.
Medical Care
Medical facilities on the islands are very limited. Serious medical situations may require transportation back toward Panama City. Travel insurance is strongly recommended.
Last-Minute Bookings
Reservations made after 6:00 PM for the following day are subject to confirmation. Please wait for explicit confirmation from our booking team before considering a last-minute reservation confirmed.
Additional Transportation Options
If you prefer to drive yourself to Port of Cartí, a $40 per person reduction may apply. Only suitable 4x4 vehicles are permitted for the journey into the territory, and guests must arrive on time because the boat tour cannot wait for delayed arrivals.
Round-trip transportation from the Playa Bonita area is available for an additional $10 per person.

I'd highly recommend a trip with Tao. It was well-organized, the vehicle was spacious, the driver, Adrian, knew all the best spots and local lore. Once we got to the islands, everything was taken care of, including a typical Panamanian meal. The team made sure I experienced the islands’ beauty and Guna culture without any stress. Unforgettable!Posted on Google![]()

A paradise in the middle of the sea The islands of San Blas are beautiful, we left on the island with the boat sunk in a private cabin, we really liked the food and the views. The beach has plenty of space to relax, sunbathe and go snorkeling next to the sunken boat. There are islands very close by that are beautiful and we went to visit them after our Czech out and our last lunch was on another island. It is worth the 3 hours by car and the 30 minutes by boat to visit this paradise. If you are in Panama it would be a sin not to visit San BlasPosted on Tripadvisor![]()

IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CARIBBEAN, in a little PIECE OF PARADISE! San Blas itself is an amazing paradise. There is no doubt. We preferred to overnight there instead of a day tour and we really enjoyed it. All is basic yes (accomodation, food) but you are IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CARIBBEAN, in a little PIECE OF PARADISE!Enjoy, be grateful and do not forget to snorkel! This is my advicePosted on Getyourguide![]()

This tour was absolutely perfect from start to finish! Our guide was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and made sure everyone felt comfortable and had a great time. The organization was flawless, and everything ran smoothly. The island we visited was stunning, and the beach was even more beautiful than in the pictures – nothing was overpromised, it was exactly as described (maybe even better!). Crystal-clear water, breathtaking views, and a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere. I can highly recommend this experience to anyone looking for a memorable and well-organized island hopping tour. I would book it again in a heartbeat!Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

This tour was hands down one of the highlights of my entire trip to Panama. From the moment we were picked up early in the morning to the time we got dropped off in the evening, everything felt like a dream. Yes, it's a long day and the road to San Blas is definitely bumpy and winding, but trust me—it’s absolutely worth it.The boat ride out to the islands was stunning. When we arrived at the first island in the Holandeses Cays, I couldn’t believe how clear the water was—it looked like something off a postcard. We snorkeled, swam, and just relaxed in some of the most beautiful, untouched beaches I’ve ever seen. There were moments where it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. Our guide was amazing—super friendly, helpful, and full of interesting facts about the region and the Kuna Yala people. He really made everyone feel welcome and went out of his way to make sure we were having a good time. Lunch was simple but tasty (fresh fish, plantains, and rice), and eating it under the palm trees by the beach just added to the experience. What I really appreciated was how raw and real it all felt. No tourist traps, no big crowds—just nature, culture, and genuine connection. It’s not a luxury experience, and that’s exactly what makes it so special. There’s no Wi-Fi, no fancy facilities, and honestly, no need for them. You’re just completely present and surrounded by stunning natural beauty. If you're looking for a true escape, somewhere remote and magical, this trip delivers. I came back salty, sun-kissed, and totally recharged. I would do it again in a heartbeat.Posted on Google![]()

It was a beautiful tour! They use WhatsApp to communicate so make sure you can text through that. Also be sure to get your national park pass done before the tour starts for zapatilla island- they communicated that very clearly which was so nice. The day was absolutely beautiful and did not feel rushed or too much. We left at 10 and got back around 4:30. (Lunch is the last thing and only cash so make sure to eat something before you go!) We had an good guide Amir. We saw dolphins, sloths, sharks, jellyfish, etc. So many fun creatures and such a fun tour! Would highly recommend this for your trip to Bocas!Posted on Google![]()

EXCELLENT! Javier our driver made this trip worth while! He was an excellent driver & host, & very considerate, driving slower on the downhill drive to the beach when some of us became nauseous. ADVICE-take your nausea meds when you stop at the gas station! Not later! Trust me! He also made the tour extra special when he spotted a sloth, toucan & a monkey in the trees & stopped to allow us to take pictures & see them up close. He has the eyes of an eagle! Don't know HOW he spotted them while driving! Regarding the San Blas Island tour- BREATHTAKING! Absolutely LOVED this tour. If I had one negative comment it would be to skip the last island (unnecessary) & allow guests to enjoy the island where we had lunch. Getting in/out of the boat is NOT easy. 2 islands+sand bar is enough for this tour! Also, 6 people don't fit "comfortably" in these SUV's! Let guests know they have the option to purchase the extra seats! So grateful we requested only our group of 4 people in our SUV & paid $I10 extra ($55 per seat)!Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Stunning islands The San Blas islands are truly beautiful. We island hopped for a few hours, had lunch, and enjoyed the scenery. Swimming, snorkeling, etc. Our guides were nice and helpful. I’m glad we got to experience this. Sunscreen and bug spray are a must. We also took water shoes and found this helpful.I will say for the motion sickness people: if you are mildly motion sick, you will be fine on the last part of the drive. It’s paved most of the way. It’s a lot of steep hills and winding motions. I took Dramamine and did just fine. If you get severely motion sick, I don’t know that this would be good for you.Posted on Google![]()

Emmanuel was quick to respond to our last minute request to accommodate our trip to San Blas. The original set up fell through so he quickly stepped up to help out. The drivers who took us there and back were friendly and considerate and the guide responded to all my questions about the Gunas, their way of life, traditions and system of governance. We had to proactively seek out information about the Comarca, but answers were provided and we had a great educational experience as a result.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Just a FYI if you experience motion sickness, please take something prior to the ride through the Guna Yala territory. The rode is very winding and hilly. My friend got sick from the ride. Our driver Javier picked us up on time and drove very well- even on the curvy roads in the San Blas territory! He also showed us wild life found on our way ( Toucans, Owls, Monkeys etc)The Guna guide Richard and the boat crew was also great…they made the travel between the islands seamless. Overall, the San Blas Tour was worth the effort. Transportation was timely and much less stressful than anticipated. Roads were completely paved, and although there were lots of switchbacks through the mountains (2nd hour of the drive), I was never uncomfortable (except for the ride through the city on the return trip -- lots of potholes and terrible traffic). The first two islands we visited were amazing and beyond beautiful. Lunch was nothing special but entirely edible. The last stop was Devil's Island, which was a total disappointment and could have been left off of the itinerary. The beach was rocky, there was limited seating outside of the main patio and in general the appearance paled in comparison to the previous two. I wasn't particularly interested in island hopping and would've preferred an option to visit one island for the entire time. That being said, I enjoyed myself, recommend it highly and would go again if Devil's Island was eliminated.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Wer Luxus will, ist hier falsch. 5 Sterne, weil es für uns (4 Erwachsene, 5 Kinder) trotz des hohen Preises super schön war.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

From making the reservation online>pick up> San Blans island was superb! Our tour guide made us feel welcome had fruits upon delivery as a refresher to start the day ,spoke our native language and ensured the entire tour was organized 1000/10! I would book again a next tourPosted on Google![]()

The drive to the site is a winding road and the boat is a bit fast so be prepared but omg this was such an amazing experience!Posted on Airbnb![]()

Super recomendable Tao!Posted on Airbnb![]()

We saw four islands, took many pictures and met many great people Last one hour of driving was really windy with potholes as mentioned and advertised many times prior. Michael was really nice to accomodate and gave me the front seat (highly recommended) The tour was mostly just a transportation service from hotel to the various islands and back (road and boat). We didn’t meet Michael or team on this trip. Would’ve liked a tour guide present to talk more about the islands and the history of the Indians (Gunas) and their daily lives etc First and only meal service is at 12pm so highly recommend to have breakfast before the pick up at 5am or utilise the grocery store stop over at the beginning of the trip Overall a great day to San BlasPosted on Airbnb![]()

Everything was timely and well organized. The lunch was plentiful and flavorful. The drive was bumpy as stated but didn’t prevent me from sleeping and the driver was very cautious. Great trip to the beach!Posted on Airbnb![]()

This experience was magical! I know other reviews talked about the challenging drive, but I felt like our driver did the best with the conditions he had to work with. The tour to the islands was fun and I felt safe the entire time. Being in the beautiful waters, and seeing the fish and starfish made the journey worth it. I highly recommend this trip!Posted on Airbnb![]()

The experience overall was magical. Everyone was extremely kind and generous. The beaches were beautiful! You can stand up in the shallow water at several locations. I loved that we got the option to buy homemade purses, jewelry, and coconuts at the beach store. The roads leading to the starting point however, we’re terrible. If you have motion sickness or vertigo, you may want to consider not going.Load more
