2. Which San Blas Day Tour is Right for Me?
We offer two San Blas Day Tour options, both departing from Panama City and including round-trip transportation, boat transfers, island visits and lunch. The main difference is the itinerary: our classic tour focuses on some of the best-known San Blas highlights, while the alternative route explores a quieter part of the archipelago with fewer tour boats.

🌴 San Blas Day Tour Option 1: The Classic Experience
Our original and most popular San Blas Day Tour, perfect for first-time visitors who want to experience the iconic highlights of San Blas. This island-hopping adventure includes:
- Isla Perro – One of the most famous islands in San Blas, known for its nearby shipwreck resting just offshore. Its clear Caribbean waters make it one of the tour's best stops for snorkeling and exploring marine life.
- Natural Pool – A beautiful shallow sandbank where you can stand in waist-deep, crystal-clear Caribbean water. It's one of the signature stops of our San Blas Day Tour and a fantastic place for swimming and photos.
- Isla Misdup – A pristine island with soft white sand and a shallow sandbank extending into calm turquoise waters. Swim, relax on the beach, and enjoy a freshly prepared island lunch surrounded by the Caribbean.
- Isla Diablo – A final island stop where you can enjoy the beach, take a last swim, snap some photos, or simply relax before returning to the mainland.
Best for: First-time visitors who want to experience several of the most popular islands and highlights of San Blas in a single day.
🌴 San Blas Day Tour Option 2 – The Secluded Escape
For travelers looking for a quieter San Blas Day Tour, Option 2 takes you beyond the most popular tourist stops to experience beautiful beaches, turquoise Caribbean waters, and a more laid-back side of San Blas. Highlights include:
- Natural Pool – Enjoy the same beautiful shallow, crystal-clear Caribbean waters featured in Option 1, with time to swim, relax, and take photos.
- Isla Yansailadup – A picturesque inhabited island with palm-lined beaches, ocean swings, and beach chairs — an ideal place to slow down and enjoy the tropical surroundings.
- Isla Misdup – A newly opened, uninhabited island with pristine sand and shallow turquoise waters, perfect for swimming, lounging, and escaping the busier island stops.
👉 Best for: Travelers looking for fewer crowds, beautiful beaches, and a more relaxed San Blas island experience.
Important: The local Guna guides on Option 2 do not speak English. Please keep this in mind when selecting your tour option.

4. San Blas Day Tour Itinerary – Option 1
Your San Blas Day Tour begins early in the morning with pick-up from your Panama City hotel or Airbnb between 5:00 am and 5:45 am. A friendly driver will safely transport you and up to five other guests on a scenic 2.5–3 hour journey through the lush jungle highlands to the Port of Carti. Along the way, you may spot monkeys or sloths in the trees, and your driver will gladly stop for photos. There’s also a short stop at a grocery store in case you’d like to buy snacks, water, or fruit.
Upon arrival at the port, there may be a short waiting time while local guides organize groups and complete the necessary paperwork. The port can be busy in the morning as boats prepare for departure, but your local Guna guides coordinate the process before you begin your island adventure.
A lancha boat will be waiting to begin your island adventure. The 25–30 minute ride to the first island can be bumpy and wet depending on ocean conditions, so come prepared for a true Caribbean boat experience. Along the way, the boat may make brief stops at other islands to pick up or drop off guests, offering a glimpse of daily life in San Blas.
🏝️ Isla Perro (approx. 1.5 hours)
Your first stop is the famous Isla Perro, a postcard-perfect island known for its palm-lined beach and the shipwreck reef just offshore. With free snorkel gear provided, you can explore the colorful coral and fish around the wreck, swim in turquoise waters, or simply relax under the palms.

🌊 Natural Pool (approx. 30 minutes)
Next, we visit the Natural Pool, a shallow sandbank in the middle of the ocean where you can stand waist-deep in crystal-clear water. Here, you may spot starfish resting on the sandy bottom — the perfect spot for unforgettable photos.

🍽️ Isla Misdup (approx. 1.5 hours + lunch)
We then continue to Isla Misdup, a newly opened and pristine island quickly becoming one of San Blas’ hidden gems. Here you’ll enjoy a freshly prepared island lunch with your choice of fish, chicken, or vegetarian option (plus one included drink: water, soda, or beer).
After lunch, relax on soft white sand or lounge in the island’s beautiful shallow sandbank, where calm turquoise waters stretch far into the sea — perfect for swimming, wading, or simply enjoying the peaceful Caribbean atmosphere away from crowds.
🌴 Isla Diablo (approx. 1 hour)
Our final stop is Isla Diablo, a charming island inhabited by a Guna family. Spend some time swimming, relaxing, or chatting with the locals before preparing for the return trip.
By around 3:00–3:30 pm, we’ll head back to the Port of Carti, where your driver will be waiting. You’ll arrive back at your hotel or Airbnb in Panama City at approximately 7:00 pm.
⚠️ Important Note
Please be prepared for a 2.5–3 hour drive each way on winding mountain roads, including sections with potholes, followed by a 25–30 minute boat ride that can be bumpy and wet depending on ocean conditions. The journey is part of the adventure, and reaching the remote San Blas Islands rewards you with beautiful beaches, turquoise Caribbean waters, and a unique glimpse into Guna culture.
The San Blas Day Tour – Option 1 is perfect for first-time visitors, combining snorkeling, swimming, relaxation, and cultural immersion — an unforgettable day in one of the last unspoiled island paradises on Earth.
We also offer San Blas sailboat charter tours that will allow you to visit many more islands and enjoy all-inclusive amenities, such as gourmet meals, open bar, snacks throughout the day, kayaks, SUP boards and much more.
For those of you who long for a relaxing multi-day San Blas vacation, relaxing in a hammock, reading a book, sipping on a cocktail and watching spectacular golden red sunsets we offer San Blas cabins on various unique San Blas islands. Whether staying in an "Over-water" cabin and jumping into the ocean from your bedroom or sleeping in a traditional Guna hut, we can provide you with options that suit your particular taste and style.

Our San Blas Day Tour includes round-trip transportation from your Panama City hotel or Airbnb, so you don't need to arrange the road transfer or boat transportation separately.
Do I need a permit or pay an entrance fee to visit Guna Yala?
Visitors must pay a Guna Yala entrance fee before reaching the Port of Carti. The current fee is $22 for international visitors and $7 for Panamanian residents and should be paid separately in cash. Please also bring your passport or Panamanian cédula.
How long is the San Blas Day Tour?

Is the road to San Blas difficult?
The road into Guna Yala is mountainous, steep, and winding, with sections that may be rough or have potholes. The drive normally takes approximately 2.5–3 hours each way. 12. San Blas Day Tour: Important Information & What to Expect
San Blas is one of the most beautiful and untouched island destinations in Panama, with turquoise Caribbean waters, white-sand beaches, and the unique culture of the Guna people.
At the same time, San Blas is rustic and remote. Think of your San Blas Day Tour as an authentic cultural and island adventure rather than a luxury excursion.
➡️ If you expect 5-star facilities and resort-style service, San Blas may not be the right destination for you.
✅ If you arrive with an open mind and a sense of adventure, you can experience one of Panama's most unique island destinations.
🧑🤝🧑 Our Service vs. Local Service
We provide excellent service during your booking process and will assist you before and during your trip.
However:
- We do not own or operate the islands.
- Once you arrive, all services are provided by the local Guna community, and quality may differ from what you’re used to.
- Service may feel slow or unorganized — this is part of the authentic San Blas experience.
🏝️ What to Expect on a San Blas Day Tour
🚙 Transportation
- Car ride: 2.5–3 hrs from Panama City on curvy mountain roads in shared 4x4 SUVs (6 passengers). Extra seat = extra cost.
- Pick-up: 5:00–5:45 am — be ready on time; drivers cannot wait more than 10 minutes.
- Port check-in: Can feel busy or informal, but the Guna community maintains an organized system and ensures all guests are cared for.
- Boat ride: 25–30 min; can be bumpy and wet — bring a dry bag for electronics.
- Transfers: Boats may stop at other islands to pick up or drop off guests, offering a glimpse of authentic Guna island life.
🏝️ Island Experience
- Facilities are very basic — limited shade, simple bathrooms, and rustic surroundings.
- Beaches are shallow in some areas; for swimming you may need to walk further out.
- Islands may be busy, especially in high season.
- Expect a relaxed pace — no fixed schedules like in traditional tours.
🍽️ Food & Drinks
- Meals freshly prepared in local kitchens.
- Typical dishes: fish or chicken, rice, salad, patacones.
- One drink included (water, soda, or beer).
- Additional drinks/snacks can be purchased before departure or from local vendors on the islands.

👥 Guna Culture
- Local operation: Island and boat services within San Blas are operated by members of the local Guna community.
- Language: English proficiency among local Guna guides and boat crews varies. Please note that guides on Option 2 do not speak English.
- Respect their traditions: ask before taking photos, and dress modestly when visiting villages.
🌿 Nature & Environment
- Ocean currents may bring plastic debris, though the Guna clean regularly.
- Sandflies and mosquitoes are common during the rainy/windless season (April–Dec) → bring insect repellent.
- Weather is unpredictable — rain is possible anytime. Tours run rain or shine, unless the maritime authority closes the ports (no refunds for rain).
🩺 Health & Safety
- Very limited medical care on the islands.
- Serious issues require evacuation to Panama City (guest covers cost).
- Travel insurance is strongly recommended
💡 Final Note
A San Blas Day Tour is not a luxury resort experience — it's an opportunity to disconnect, experience a unique culture, and enjoy one of Panama's most beautiful island destinations.
Come with patience, flexibility, and respect for the local Guna community. With the right expectations, San Blas can be one of the most memorable experiences of your trip to Panama.

I'd highly recommend a trip with Tao. It was well-organized, the vehicle was spacious, the driver, Adrian, knew all the best spots and local lore. Once we got to the islands, everything was taken care of, including a typical Panamanian meal. The team made sure I experienced the islands’ beauty and Guna culture without any stress. Unforgettable!Posted on Google![]()

Love it. Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

A paradise in the middle of the sea The islands of San Blas are beautiful, we left on the island with the boat sunk in a private cabin, we really liked the food and the views. The beach has plenty of space to relax, sunbathe and go snorkeling next to the sunken boat. There are islands very close by that are beautiful and we went to visit them after our Czech out and our last lunch was on another island. It is worth the 3 hours by car and the 30 minutes by boat to visit this paradise. If you are in Panama it would be a sin not to visit San BlasPosted on Tripadvisor![]()

IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CARIBBEAN, in a little PIECE OF PARADISE! San Blas itself is an amazing paradise. There is no doubt. We preferred to overnight there instead of a day tour and we really enjoyed it. All is basic yes (accomodation, food) but you are IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CARIBBEAN, in a little PIECE OF PARADISE!Enjoy, be grateful and do not forget to snorkel! This is my advicePosted on Getyourguide![]()

This tour was absolutely perfect from start to finish! Our guide was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and made sure everyone felt comfortable and had a great time. The organization was flawless, and everything ran smoothly. The island we visited was stunning, and the beach was even more beautiful than in the pictures – nothing was overpromised, it was exactly as described (maybe even better!). Crystal-clear water, breathtaking views, and a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere. I can highly recommend this experience to anyone looking for a memorable and well-organized island hopping tour. I would book it again in a heartbeat!Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

This tour was hands down one of the highlights of my entire trip to Panama. From the moment we were picked up early in the morning to the time we got dropped off in the evening, everything felt like a dream. Yes, it's a long day and the road to San Blas is definitely bumpy and winding, but trust me—it’s absolutely worth it.The boat ride out to the islands was stunning. When we arrived at the first island in the Holandeses Cays, I couldn’t believe how clear the water was—it looked like something off a postcard. We snorkeled, swam, and just relaxed in some of the most beautiful, untouched beaches I’ve ever seen. There were moments where it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. Our guide was amazing—super friendly, helpful, and full of interesting facts about the region and the Kuna Yala people. He really made everyone feel welcome and went out of his way to make sure we were having a good time. Lunch was simple but tasty (fresh fish, plantains, and rice), and eating it under the palm trees by the beach just added to the experience. What I really appreciated was how raw and real it all felt. No tourist traps, no big crowds—just nature, culture, and genuine connection. It’s not a luxury experience, and that’s exactly what makes it so special. There’s no Wi-Fi, no fancy facilities, and honestly, no need for them. You’re just completely present and surrounded by stunning natural beauty. If you're looking for a true escape, somewhere remote and magical, this trip delivers. I came back salty, sun-kissed, and totally recharged. I would do it again in a heartbeat.Posted on Google![]()

It was a beautiful tour! They use WhatsApp to communicate so make sure you can text through that. Also be sure to get your national park pass done before the tour starts for zapatilla island- they communicated that very clearly which was so nice. The day was absolutely beautiful and did not feel rushed or too much. We left at 10 and got back around 4:30. (Lunch is the last thing and only cash so make sure to eat something before you go!) We had an good guide Amir. We saw dolphins, sloths, sharks, jellyfish, etc. So many fun creatures and such a fun tour! Would highly recommend this for your trip to Bocas!Posted on Google![]()

EXCELLENT! Javier our driver made this trip worth while! He was an excellent driver & host, & very considerate, driving slower on the downhill drive to the beach when some of us became nauseous. ADVICE-take your nausea meds when you stop at the gas station! Not later! Trust me! He also made the tour extra special when he spotted a sloth, toucan & a monkey in the trees & stopped to allow us to take pictures & see them up close. He has the eyes of an eagle! Don't know HOW he spotted them while driving! Regarding the San Blas Island tour- BREATHTAKING! Absolutely LOVED this tour. If I had one negative comment it would be to skip the last island (unnecessary) & allow guests to enjoy the island where we had lunch. Getting in/out of the boat is NOT easy. 2 islands+sand bar is enough for this tour! Also, 6 people don't fit "comfortably" in these SUV's! Let guests know they have the option to purchase the extra seats! So grateful we requested only our group of 4 people in our SUV & paid $I10 extra ($55 per seat)!Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Stunning islands The San Blas islands are truly beautiful. We island hopped for a few hours, had lunch, and enjoyed the scenery. Swimming, snorkeling, etc. Our guides were nice and helpful. I’m glad we got to experience this. Sunscreen and bug spray are a must. We also took water shoes and found this helpful.I will say for the motion sickness people: if you are mildly motion sick, you will be fine on the last part of the drive. It’s paved most of the way. It’s a lot of steep hills and winding motions. I took Dramamine and did just fine. If you get severely motion sick, I don’t know that this would be good for you.Posted on Google![]()

Emmanuel was quick to respond to our last minute request to accommodate our trip to San Blas. The original set up fell through so he quickly stepped up to help out. The drivers who took us there and back were friendly and considerate and the guide responded to all my questions about the Gunas, their way of life, traditions and system of governance. We had to proactively seek out information about the Comarca, but answers were provided and we had a great educational experience as a result.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Heaven This trip was like experiencing a small piece of heaven. Our driver Jonny was super chill. Just a FYI if you experience motion sickness, please take something prior to the ride through the Guna Yala territory. The rode is very winding and hilly. My friend got sick from the ride. Once we arrived at San Blas island it was absolutely amazing. The views were breathtaking. The natural pool was amazing. Hands down one of the best highlights of our stay in Panama 🇵🇦.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

San Blas Bliss! Our day trip to San Blas was amazing! The day is long but so worth the beautiful beaches and placid Caribbean sea that you get to spend time in! Highly recommend! Our driver Javier picked us up on time and drove very well- even on the curvy roads in the San Blas territory! He also showed us wild life found on our way ( Toucans, Owls, Monkeys etc)The Guna guide Richard and the boat crew was also great…they made the travel between the islands seamless. We had enough time on the 3 islands and natural pool! There was good snorkeling too!! All and all a day well spent!Posted on Google![]()

What an amazing trip. The islands are absolutely beautiful!!!! The ride to get to the port at San Blas is very long, and the boat ride to the islands is a little bumpy, but trust me, it’s absolutely worth the rides. The water on these islands is crystal clear blue. You will be able to enjoy beautiful beaches and relax on these islands. Must do if visiting Panama.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Excellent tour! Excellent value for your money! San Blas islands is definitely worth visiting even for just a day trip although now that we have done a day trip, we would like to come back to stay for a couple nights on one of the islands.Posted on Google![]()

The tour from Panama City to the San Blas Islands was a wonderful experience. Every aspect functioned smoothly - the transportation, the driver, the host at the islands, the lunch, everything. Emmanuel, the Tao Travel 365 representative I spoke with, was enormously helpful. He made the experience one of best I had in Panama and one of the best tours I have taken. He was so responsive, assisted in resolving a potential issue efficiently and quickly, and attentive to a certain need I had. I very highly recommend this tour and also Emmanuel if there are any questions.Posted on Google![]()

We had a great experience in our San Blas trip. It was the most beautiful beaches we have seen until now. I couldn’t believe it. Our driver and tour leader were both fantastic. I highly recommend this tour.Posted on Google![]()

Overall, the San Blas Tour was worth the effort. Transportation was timely and much less stressful than anticipated. Roads were completely paved, and although there were lots of switchbacks through the mountains (2nd hour of the drive), I was never uncomfortable (except for the ride through the city on the return trip -- lots of potholes and terrible traffic). The first two islands we visited were amazing and beyond beautiful. Lunch was nothing special but entirely edible. The last stop was Devil's Island, which was a total disappointment and could have been left off of the itinerary. The beach was rocky, there was limited seating outside of the main patio and in general the appearance paled in comparison to the previous two. I wasn't particularly interested in island hopping and would've preferred an option to visit one island for the entire time. That being said, I enjoyed myself, recommend it highly and would go again if Devil's Island was eliminated.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Perfect beaches, plenty space for everyone. Pleasant trip and wonderful beaches. Food was great too. Try the Coco Loco. Bring ginger pills if you arent comfy riding a roller coaster for 2h straight. The hills of San Blas are a nice little bonus experience but most will need a little something for the nausea to enjoy them.Posted on Google![]()

Posted on Google![]()

Wer Luxus will, ist hier falsch. Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

We saw four islands, took many pictures and met many great people Last one hour of driving was really windy with potholes as mentioned and advertised many times prior. Michael was really nice to accomodate and gave me the front seat (highly recommended) The tour was mostly just a transportation service from hotel to the various islands and back (road and boat). We didn’t meet Michael or team on this trip. Would’ve liked a tour guide present to talk more about the islands and the history of the Indians (Gunas) and their daily lives etc First and only meal service is at 12pm so highly recommend to have breakfast before the pick up at 5am or utilise the grocery store stop over at the beginning of the trip Overall a great day to San BlasPosted on Airbnb![]()

This experience was magical! I know other reviews talked about the challenging drive, but I felt like our driver did the best with the conditions he had to work with. The tour to the islands was fun and I felt safe the entire time. Being in the beautiful waters, and seeing the fish and starfish made the journey worth it. I highly recommend this trip!Posted on Airbnb![]()

The experience overall was magical. Everyone was extremely kind and generous. The beaches were beautiful! You can stand up in the shallow water at several locations. I loved that we got the option to buy homemade purses, jewelry, and coconuts at the beach store. The roads leading to the starting point however, we’re terrible. If you have motion sickness or vertigo, you may want to consider not going.Load more
